Better Communication Classes

Better Communication Classes at Audiology & Hearing Services of Charlotte include aural rehab programs for children, adults and families. These sessions are essential to having lasting satisfaction with hearing aids. Our classes also teach you or your child ways to communicate and function better with hearing loss.

Learn about hearing loss

Classes are an opportunity for you and your family to learn about hearing loss and how it affects communication. They help family members understand what it’s like to have hearing loss.

Your hearing aid

Learning about your hearing aid—how it works, what it can do, and how to take care of it—is a process. Aural rehabilitation classes allow you to ask the audiologist more questions and to use the particular device you were prescribed most effectively.

Children’s needs

When your child is fitted with a hearing aid, family members and caregivers are important participants in device care and adjustment. Multiple family members can be taught to assist a child with their hearing aid. Over time, the individual will take responsibility for cleaning, adjustment, troubleshooting and making appointments.

Assistive devices

There are a number of times when a hearing aid isn’t the right tool to help you, such as when you are sleeping. Telephone amplifiers, television listening devices and personal FM systems are just some of the technologies that can help your function throughout the day and night, and in a variety of environments.

Listening strategies

We also teach strategies for better hearing and communication. From selecting where you sit in a restaurant to asking people to face you when speaking, there are many ways to improve your hearing experience. These skills will reduce frustration for you and the people around you.

It’s our job to do more than perform tests and fit hearing aids. With the aural rehab program at Audiology & Hearing Services of Charlotte, we will teach you a new way of looking at the common but often misunderstood issues that come with hearing loss.

New hearing aid users and their family members benefit most from these interactive sessions.

Sessions typically run 60-90 minutes and can be scheduled at convenient times.

While not required, family participation greatly enhances the learning experience.

Most people benefit from 2-3 sessions, though individual needs may vary.

Coverage varies by provider. Our staff can verify your benefits for these services.
